In the years of best growing conditions, the three oldest and best tiny lots of our three most important varieties are harvested and vinified under the lowest yields.
Raised on red, sandy clay and gravelly Dolomite soils in the Brenntal vineyard, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon marry into an unparalleled alpine-mediterranean cuvée.
The grapes for this cuvée grow in our Brenntal vineyard on the steep southeastern facing slopes below the village of Kurtatsch, at elevations of 220 to 350 m above sea level. Thanks to intensive sunlight, the vineyards of this steep location are among the warmest in Alto Adige. At night, cool downslope winds from the mountains above the vineyards ensure cooling of the grapes. The great difference in day/night temperatures guarantee fresh, multi-facetted aromas and ideal acidity values. The loamy, sandy soils with stone rich in fossils are similar to those of the famous French regions of Pomerol (loam) and Medoc (gravel with clay and limestone substrate) in the Bordeaux region. These soils are ideal for giving the grapes structure and finesse.
For the production of TRES, tiny lots (sometimes as little as a few rows of vines within a vineyard) which have, over the years, shown to be especially outstanding, have been selected and separately vinified since 2015. This meticulous selection, the optimal conditions in the vineyard, the age of the grapevines and the low yields are the basis for the creation of a cuvée with alpine character, crisp fruit and distinct freshness.
The vines of the “Brenntal” area Merlot (77%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%) boast the reputation of being the best in Cortaccia and bring an inimitable Alpine-Mediterranean cuvée to the glass. In the glass the cuveé appears red and reveals a range of fruity and spicy aromas. The cuveé envelops the palate with its fine structure, with elegance and persistence. The ideal accompaniment for Merlot Cabernet Riserva “Tres” is dishes based on game or red meat, but exquisite harmonies can also be created in a duet with mature cheeses.
