"The Riesling Alte Reben Mosel is perfectly ripe and of great clarity in the intense, elegant nose. It is balanced on the palate, almost lush in fruit. Equipped with a fine tannin structure and subtle creamy, yet powerful minerality." Drinking maturity 2021-2035
The grapes for this Riesling come from the various, partly not cleared, old vineyards of the Middle Moselle (60-80 years old), with a few ungrafted Riesling vines. Fine but also stony weathered slate soils can be found in the steep slopes and pass the minerality on to the grapes in an extremely concentrated manner.
The grapes were harvested at the end of October. 100% healthy grapes were gently ground and macerated for several hours on the aromatic and mineral-rich berry skins. The must was then fermented spontaneously, slowly and coolly, so that the multi-faceted, fruity aromas of the wine could develop. A gentle expansion in large wooden barrels with long yeast storage followed after fermentation.
