With this background, Gran Enemigo Gualtallary
has become a flagship wine, especially for Adrianna and Alejandro, and for Argentine viticulture. This red wine is born at 1,470 metres above sea level, in a high-density vineyard planted in Gualtallary (Mendoza), surrounded by an impressive landscape. It is made from a blend of the Cabernet Franc (in greater proportion) and Malbec varieties, whose vines grow in calcareous soils very similar to those that predominate in Burgundy or Champagne.
The grapes are harvested in five different stages, with a difference of one and a half months between the first and the last. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes undergo cold maceration (5 days) and maceration at medium temperature for 23 days, with 30% of the bunches whole. Fermentation takes place in barrels, at medium temperature. The resulting wine is aged for 5 months in 100-year-old foudres.
Gran Enemigo Gualtallary is a limited production wine, precise, with a transgressive elegance, vibrant and fresh, which breaks with the guidelines established by classical viticulture and manages to place Argentine wines at the top of the podium.
Gran Enemigo Gualtallary 2020 is a phenomenal wine, which stands out for its freshness and balance despite being from a warm vintage. On the nose, it reveals a subtle and ethereal character that contrasts with the intensity and power typical of Gualtallary. On the palate, it is perceived as powerful but surprisingly light, with an inner strength that promises an exceptional evolution in the bottle. A red wine that, without a doubt, will continue to develop in a charming way over time.
