The Wehlener Klosterberg* 2019 Pinot Blanc presents itself on the nose as deep, pure, intense and complex, combining caramel aromas with floral and typical slate notes. Full-bodied, lush, rounded and intense on the palate, this is an exceptionally fine and exciting Pinot with elegant power, fine tannins and a long, clear finish characterized by minerality and saltiness.
Vineyard
The steep slope of approximately 24 hectares with a classic south orientation is the location of our house directly adjacent to the winery. The soil consists of light to medium heavy, stony, weathered Devonian slate with significant iron content. The forest in the upper part of the vineyards guarantees an excellently balanced water balance. The wines of Wehlener Klosterberg are elegant, lively, with lots of spice and deep minerality.
Winemaking
The grapes were harvested in October. 100% healthy grapes were gently ground and macerated for several hours on the aromatic, mineral-rich berry skins. The must was then fermented spontaneously, slowly and freshly, so that the fruity and multifaceted aromas of the wine could emerge. Fermentation was followed by delicate aging in barrique barrels with long conservation on the yeasts.
